The Hall of Fame consists of the Top 5 scorers (w/ties) in each year. The Hall of Shame is a little harder to explain.

Here at The Monkey Madness, we have an expert prognosticator, Madness Monkey. He uses the very latest in coin-flipping technology to make his picks; that's it. His half-wit brother Homer has an equally simple, yet vastly more successful method. He simply picks the higher seed in every game.

Those are the barometers ... judge yourself against them. I will warn you that Madness HAS selected the winner before and his picks this year aren't too crazy. For those who don't believe or trust the coin-flip, we don't care.

Time was ticking away on the Davidson Wildcats and their rapid rise to college basketball relevance.

Down 11 points at the half and being stymied by Georgetown’s suffocating defense, the shots were clanking, even for sophomore star Stephen Curry. Making good on just 8 of 30 attempts from the field as a team, 2 of 8 by Curry, they were in deep trouble. As off as their efforts were, the Hoyas’ were true, Georgetown firing at a 66.7 percent clip from the field and converting 5 of 7 from three-point distance.

The team that seemingly could do no wrong in its NCAA tournament-opening upset of Gonzaga couldn’t find the hoop and couldn’t stop GU. It looked like the 2½-hour drive back to the Charlotte area was going to be a long and disappointing ride.

Sorry, but Cinderella wasn’t ready for the carriage just yet.

Davidson's for Real and the New Results are Up . . .

WOW!!

He did it again!! I like to watch Stephen Curry about as much as I liked to watch his dad. When I was growing up in Blacksburg, VA, Dell Curry was draining bombs from what would now be the NBA 3-point line in Cassell Coliseum. Why do I say about as much . . . well, Dell wore the Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange of Virginia Tech. Oh how I wish things had been different during the recruiting season of 2006! But for now, I'll just sit back and watch the son of one of my favorite college basketball players show what the NCAA Tournament is about.

Tampa's the Talk of the Tournament . . .

For the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament all four lower seeds won at a first round location.

Western Kentucky started the madness when Ty Rogers hit a 3 as time ran out in overtime, giving the Hilltoppers a 101-99 win over Drake. Not to be undone, #13 San Diego's De'Jon Jackson hit a jumper with 1.2 seconds left in OT to beat # 4 UConn 70-69. Surely the evening session would restore order for the lower seeds . . . umm, nope.

Any thoughts of the lower seeds winning the night went by the wayside quickly as #13 Siena got off to a fast start and never looked back beating #4 Vanderbilt 82-63. When #5 Clemson and #12 Villanova took the court, no one knew what to expect. Clemson attempted to restore order and ran out to an 18 point lead, then it happened. 'Nova's Scottie Reynolds sparked an incredible comeback and when the clock hit 00:00, the fans sitting in the St. Pete Times Forum had witnessed history when Villanova finished off Clemson 75-69.

What's up in Tampa!! UCONN Goes Down 70-69 to San Diego

The Tampa Regional looks a little different now. Earlier in the day #12 Western Kentucky gave us the first major upset of the Tournament beating #5 Drake. Lightning has struck again with #13 San Diego just upsetting Connecticut in overtime.

So we know we'll have at least on #10 plus seed in the next round as #12 Western Kentucky will take on #13 San Diego with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line!

Western Kentucky Gives Us First Upset . . .

No. 5 seed Drake and No. 12 seed Western Kentucky put on a show today in Tampa, with a Western Kentucky buzzer beater in overtime putting an exclamation mark on the best game of the NCAA Tournament so far.

Oh Belmont ... So Close ...

Day One of March Madness looked like a snoozy affair — until the final seconds ticked down in Washington, D.C., and No. 15 Belmont was about to beat second-seeded Duke.

SCREECH!

That was the sound of the needle coming off the record, and the Blue Devils crawling back out of the abyss. Gerald Henderson drove for a go-ahead basket with 11.9 seconds to go, giving Duke a 71-70 lead; with 2.2 seconds left, the Bruins’ Justin Hare fired off a 35-foot shot he thought felt good. It wasn’t, and Duke had just avoided being the fifth No. 2 team to fall to a No. 15 seed in the first round men’s tournament. No real action on the first day of the tournament. My friends from up the road in Nashville almost pulled a major upset of Duke, but other than that there was no real shocker. Sure, K State beat USC and that has to be considered a mild upset, but this was a day for the favorites.

I wonder if the rest of Round 1 will be the same.

REMINDER: There is still time to pick against the Monkey for the Women's NCAA Tournament.

Congrats to the Georgetown Hoyas. North Carolina led Georgetown by 10 with six minutes to go, but the Hoyas weren't ready to go home. They forced overtime and then dominated UNC in the extra period for a 96-84 win.

All in all not a very exciting 1st Round. Only two double digit seeds are left in the tournament, Winthrop and VCU. Frankly, VCU is not that much of a surprise either.

Day two was a little more exciting with Virginia Tech making a impressive late game comeback to edge Illinois, while Oregon survived a late upset bid from Miami (OH).

Day one of the NCAA Tournament has come and gone. I'm sure I'll remember much about it. Kinda boring really. The VCU upset of Duke was the exception. The rest of the games were really ho hum and mostly blowouts.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring more of the Madness this tournament stakes its reputation on.

Standard Scoring – To get points for Standard Scoring a player must correctly pick a team to win a certain game. Points are then awarded based on the points assigned for that round:

First Round: 1 pt each
Second Round: 2 pts each
Sweet 16: 4 pts each
Elite 8: 8 pts each
Final Four: 16 pts each
Final: 32 pts
The Tie Breaker is the Total Points in the Finals; the second Tie Breaker is the number of players picks in the Sweet 16
